Dinner at Miller & Carter Steakhouse, Newton Mearns, Glasgow

Miller & Carter in town was somewhere that I had been dying to visit for ages but I just never got around to it. When I heard they were opening one in Newton Mearns I was really excited as given that I live in Ayrshire, Newton Mearns is just that little bit closer to me. So I was delighted to receive and invitation to go and try it out. So back in December I headed off to sample their offerings (it has been a crazy month, hence the delay in getting the post out).

The restaurant itself looks lovely both on the outside and inside. The restaurant itself is actually huge and very tastefully decorated. We were seated in a small dining area with just a few other tables. There was a lovely atmosphere here.

Firstly, the menu here is extensive so be prepared to spend a bit of time perusing the menu. Obviously Miller & Carter are known for their steaks but there are loads of other options on the menu. You can get anything from brisket, chicken, ribs, lamp, fish, pasta, burgers and salad. On the menu there is also grazing, sharing and starters options.

Mr EmmaEats and I decided to just go for a sharing plate for starters as we didn't want to be too full for our mains as we were both going for the steak. So we ordered the nachos which are described as hand cut tortilla chips topped with aged Cheddar cheese sauce, tomato salsa, sour cream, guacamole and jalapenos. To be honest, I was a little disappointed with this dish. Yes I know it's a steakhouse and I probably shouldn't have ordered the nachos but I did. I just wasn't blown away by it. Firstly the cheese just really wasn't my kinda cheese (and I love cheese) and to be honest that just really put me off the rest of the dish. I was craving cheese and was just so disappointed with it. There was nothing really special about this dish.

For mains I went for the fillet steak (cooked well done to my liking - I was advised that the best piece of meat to have well done was the rump but I just wanted the fillet so that's what I ordered) & Mr EE went for the ribeye on the bone. Be warned when you are ordering your steak you have so many things to considered. Firstly what piece of meat you want, what way your want it cooked, your steak sauce, your wedge and dressing and finally if you want any extras. There is soooo much to consider. So for sauces we went for the cracked peppercorn and blue cheese and truffle oil. For our wedge dressing we went for bacon & honey mustard and stilton and blue cheese (Mr EE must have had stronger cheese cravings as he was going for all the cheese dressings). We also decided to try some extra sides and went for the lobster mac and cheese and garlic and parmesan stem broccoli. At this point I must say we ordered way too much food - we probably should have had a third person with us to help us eat all the food. Our steaks were lovely and both cooked to our liking. The wedge was nice as were our sides but I wasn't really blown away by them. Oh yes I forget to mention that you also got chips with the steak, we seriously had so much food in front of us.

So even though we were completely stuffed a particular dessert had caught my eye when I was initially looking at the menu so I just had to have it. I went for chocolate and peanut butter fondant served with vanilla bean ice cream, fresh berries and a dark chocolate & a pistachio shard. For me this was the winner of the night. It was absolutely delicious. I loved every bit of it and ate it all (even though I was full). Mr EE didn't go for dessert (he is way too sensible).

The service here is top notch. We were served by Ashleigh and she was just exceptional. So knowledgable about the menu and was very friendly and attentive.

So all in all, I did enjoy my experience here. The starter let it down but the steak was good and the dessert was delicious.

I haven't rated the price because I was invited to eat here so I didn't pay for meal. However, my review is independent and unbiased and a true reflection of my experience on the night.
