So EmmaEats is branching out, I've decided that I'm going to do some interviews of the people behind the Glasgow food scene, as I believe they are what makes the Glasgow food scene so amazing. First up is the lovely Laurianne from Laurianne's Raw Cakes (LAURIANNE'S WEBSITE).
If you have been following me on social media over the last few months you will know that I've been trying to eat a little bit healthier. So this means when I'm at home I try my best to eat 'clean'. What does this mean - well I try not to eat dairy, wheat, gluten, refined sugar etc. I haven't been having any treats as such (unless I'm eating out) but going forward I would like to be able to have a 'clean' treat with my cup of tea. So I took to the worldwide web looking for inspiration and came across Laurianne's website and noticed that she was hosting workshops on how to make raw desserts so I decided to give it a go. I am working on a separate blog post on my experience of the workshop and that will be published soon.
I technically didn't do what one would call a proper 'interview' but throughout the workshop I gleaned info from Laurianne and then afterwards I stayed around to have a chat.
So who is Laurianne I hear you ask?
Well Laurianne, is a French girl living just outside of Glasgow. She has been living in Scotland for over 12 years. Laurianne grew up in the French countryside where food was an important aspect of her life as her four grandparents were farmers. So I had to ask, how did a French girl end up in Glasgow (there is no comparison between the 2 countries - at least in my case Ireland is as wet and windy as Scotland). When Laurianne was a teenager she spent a number of summers in Scotland to improve her English and whilst here she fell in love with the place. It was at that point that she decided she would live in Scotland. After studying in France and Spain she finally moved to Scotland in her early 20's to pursue her dream, building her life in this beautiful country.
So where did Laurianne's Raw Cakes come from?
Laurianne has always had a love of baking, however in recent years she has become more aware of what she is putting into her body. As a result Laurianne started making raw vegan desserts so that she could still have a treat without having to compromise her health. Laurianne has been making vegan and raw desserts for years now. In 2013 she set up a blog '100 Days of Vegan Cakes' as a platform to share her photos and recipes. Throughout the years while coming up with new vegan and raw recipes Laurianne found creating raw desserts were much easier so she decided to concentrate on this aspect. Laurianne has also been a finalist of the Great Vegan Bake Off in 2014 and 2015. There is no end to this girls talent.
In 2015 Laurianne's Raw Cakes was established, however initially Laurianne was running her raw cakes business whilst holding down a full time job. In April this year Laurianne said goodbye to her full time job and now dedicates all her time to Laurianne's Raw Cakes.
What is Laurianne's Raw Cakes?
Laurianne's Raw Cakes does exactly what is says on the tin - Laurianne is the maker of raw and vegan cakes and offers a selection of raw cakes, tartlets, bites and can create bespoke raw treats on request. All Laurianne's products are free from gluten, dairy, refined sugar and eggs. To see how you can get your hands on all this deliciousness in Glasgow and Edinburgh click HERE. Laurianne also runs workshops and you can find out more information by clicking HERE.
I really loved meeting Laurianne, she is so passionate about food and is such a warm and friendly person. I really enjoyed spending time with her and learning how to make 'healthy' treats. I wish Laurianne and her business all the best for the future.
Check her out ;-)
Thanks a mil for reading.
