Lunch at Wilson Street Panty, Glasgow
I had a lovely lazy Friday planned, I was just back after another few days at home in Ireland, the weather had been horrendous the day before and I thought to myself I might just have a quiet day at home. However, when I woke up it was a bright beautiful day so I decided that I should get out and make the most of it. I had been dying to try out the Good Food Glasgow Street Food. So I headed off in the direction of Merchant City to find myself some street food, I walked down to Brunswick Street and couldn't see any trucks - I thought to myself that I must have the wrong street so I walked around some more and I couldn't see any trucks. So I decided to consult google, only to find out that the Street Food is located in an area called Broomielaw on a Friday. At this stage I was starving, I think I may have been more hangry than anything and when I looked up from my phone the Wilson Street Panty was right in front of me .... I think it was fate, it was meant to be.
As I arrived just before the lunch rush I had the choice of tables, once seated I was given the menu's and my drinks order was taken. A glass of water was also placed on my table (I don't think I even had to ask for it).
Food
I decided to go for the avocado, smoked salt and lemon toast with two poached eggs. I asked for my poached eggs to be cooked firm. My food came out and it was beautifully presented. The avocado was so soft and so easy to spread on my toast. In general I love salt (probably too much) and I must say the smoked salt on the avocado really finished off the dish for me. My eggs were cooked to perfection. It was a really satisfying dish. Food rating:- 4.5/5.
Service
The service was exceptional here, staff were very attentive but not in your face. But what won it over for me was the fact that they kept my glass of water topped up all the time - I did not have to ask for a glass of water nor did I have to ask for it to be topped up. If you have read the 'about me' section of my website you will know that this is a huge issue for me! Service rating 5/5.
Atmosphere
The Wilson Street Panty is a lovely crisp and clean restaurant. I love the look of the place. On this visit I sat in towards the back of the restaurant just so I could see the workings of the restaurant but I would certainly love to sit in the window seats and watch the world go by the next time I'm there. The tables are quite close together and I must admit I half expected to knock something over as I was getting to my seat. The only negative for me, and one that the restaurant can't control, was the chatter from the table beside me - I have a feeling they wanted the world and its mother to know all about their exciting lives. Another point that is not necessarily a negative, but it is certainly not putting the best foot forward, is the crumbled menu - you might have noticed it in the photo above. It just looks so out of place in the clean, crisp atmosphere of restaurant. Atmosphere rating:- 4/5.
Price
For my avocado, eggs and toast and two pots of tea I paid £11, which I thought was very reasonable for the quality of the food and service. Price rating:- 4.5/5.
Last Words
This place is great and I'm not only saying that because they have the whole water thing under control here, I loved the food, atmosphere and service. It was a great unexpected find today but I'm delighted that I found it. I will certainly be back. Total Rating 18 out of 20.
